Jungfrau Railway with High-Level Infotainment

For countless vacation visitors, the trip to the Jungfraujoch–Top of Europe, at 3454 m Europe’s highest-altitude railway station, has long been the highlight of their visit to Switzerland. The final leg of the journey through the 7.1 kilometre tunnel inside the Eiger and Mönch has an infotainment system.

The journey from Kleine Scheidegg to the Jungfraujoch–Top of Europe is 12 kilometres long. The first two kilometres leads over spectacular open terrain to the Eiger Glacier Station, from where the railway enters a tunnel hewn from bare rock. The Jungfrau Railway has always placed great importance on providing guests with information during the tunnel journey and has equipped its double railcars with a modern infotainment system.

The system, developed by Jungfrau Railway in collaboration with the local company Mountain Multi Media from Brienz, combines comprehensive guest information and advertising suited to the Jungfrau Railway image in an entertaining manner – infotainment!

During the uphill ride, monitors screen information on the journey and the two tunnel stations, the Eigerwand (North Wall) Station, 2865 metres altitude and the Eismeer (Sea of Ice) Station, 3160 metres altitude, both with simply stunning Alpine views. The following themes will also be presented:

- The fascinating history of the Jungfrau Railway, built between 1896 and 1912
- The Eiger North Wall from the first ascent in 1938 to the present day
- The formation of the Alps
- The first UNESCO World Natural Heritage in the Alps
- The Jungfraujoch – watershed of Europe
- The High-Alpine Research Station

Attractions on the Jungfraujoch

On the return journey, passengers see information on other excursions and offers in the Jungfrau Region, interspersed with advertising for top quality products suited to the Jungfrau Railway image.

Infotainment adds another attraction to Europe’s “top” experience. The Jungfraujoch–Top of Europe’s array of incredible attractions includes the Sphinx Observation Terrace, the Ice Gateway with spectacular glacier views in any weather, the Ice Palace, husky-drawn sledge rides, high Alpine research exhibition and audio-visual show, various restaurants, souvenir shop, post office, Europe’s highest e-mail station and conference facilities – for “summit” meetings, naturally!

The Jungfrau Railways Pass*, available from all stations of Jungfrau Railways, gives 5 consecutive days of unlimited travel on the entire Jungfrau Railways network and also entitles the holder to travel for less from the Eiger Glacier Station to the Jungfraujoch–Top of Europe.
